Digital Impressions

Gone are the days of gag-inducing, chemical-tasting putty impressions at the orthodontist’s office. With advances in technology, Dr. Joseph Ryan at McAllen Orthodontic Group has access to high-tech digital impression machinery, making the experience of getting impressions taken vastly different and more comfortable.

What are Digital Impressions?

Digital impressions are completely computerized, eliminating the need for chemical-tasting goop to be placed in the patient’s mouth for minutes on end. The highly advanced camera technology allows for accuracy and speed, making the process faster and more efficient than traditional impressions.

What are the Benefits of Digital Impressions?

Digital impressions are many times more accurate than traditional impressions, and they remain usable even if patients move during the process, which renders traditional impressions useless. Both the actual process of taking photos and the turnaround time for lab analysis are greatly reduced, leading to a streamlined treatment process.

In addition to being more accurate and efficient, digital impressions are also more sustainable, with long-term environmental benefits. As digitization of orthodontia is becoming more important for a sustainable future in the field.

What is the Process of Getting a Digital Impression?

During a digital impression, an orthodontist or an orthodontic assistant moves a small wand around your mouth. The camera at the end of the wand captures your teeth and gums from all angles, giving the orthodontist an accurate picture of your jaw and bite. The camera can take around 3000 pictures per minute and is the most accurate way for the orthodontist to view and diagnose issues in your bite swiftly.
